Overcoming barriers to innovation: what can rail learn from developers?
When it comes to pushing their technologies through, start-ups eager to enter the rail market face challenging obstacles, while industry leaders press the need for innovation. A new report that highlights the barriers to technical innovation in Britain, and how those barriers might be overcome, is the focus of this article. Among other things, the report suggests that rail services be judged by passengers by the quality of service they experience from other industries. Issues of leadership, procurement, and data management are also discussed.
