Air ways on show

Britain may be poised for a move to Europe's sidelines, but when it comes to aviation there is no question that a corner of southeast England will take its rightful, biennial place at the centre of the world when the 2016 Farnborough air show kicks off on 11 July. And, as outlined in our special report, this year's edition will be packed with must-see highlights ranging from the first UK appearance of Lockheed Martin's F-35 Joint Strike Fighter to displays by new-generation narrowbody rivals the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 Max. Bombardier, meanwhile, will be making the most of the year's premier aerospace gathering to show that its soon-to-enter-service CSeries is a worthy contender. Speaking of rivals, we have visited Russia for a firsthand look at the world's newest narrowbody--Irkut's technology-packed MC-21.
