Helsinki MaaS – From Hype to Action
After Mobility as a Service - MaaS was one of the highlighted themes of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Europe Congress 2014, Helsinki as leading city received unprecedented amount of international attention. Hundreds of news articles, radio/tv interviews and presentations, constant communication with cities, government organisations, universities and private sector from start-ups to global giants alike, and occasionally MaaS even being called "Helsinki model". MaaS still being very much in early stages of development, much has been learned from the feedback. Key findings include tri-fold approach to MaaS from Mobility, Sustainability and Business Development perspectives. Helsinki's further actions will be explained in light of the above interest and both finnish national and international development, covering four major categories: legislation/regulation, business support, ‘city as a platform’ for MaaS and living lab for user base.
