IVES – a combined bottom-up / top-down track slab approach as an alternative to ballasted track

IVES is an outcome of the latest development in non-ballasted track technology. It stands for Intelligent, Versatile, Efficient and Solid. All these characteristics are embodied in its integrated system, which is based on analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of various slab track systems. The aim of IVES is to combine the benefits of existing slab track systems while eliminating their weak points. Another target is to achieve cost optimisation and make it more feasible for a wide range of applications, both: for known applications like high-speed tracks and also to use this technology as an alternative to ballasted track in common lines with lower speeds. This could be achieved by applying a holistic approach during the selection and implementation of track components, materials, as well as work methods.
