EV Charge Scheduling for Highway EMS
The spread of Electric Vehicles (EVs) is expected to be one of the principal factors contributing to realization of a low carbon society. The need to reduce the waiting time for charging is one of the problems hindering widespread adoption of EVs. In particular, this problem is significant for those EVs that run long distances along a highway. To mitigate this problem, a Highway Energy Management System (Highway EMS) will be necessary, which will comprehensively manage energy demand of the whole highway. Highway EMS will recommend charging locations to EV drivers, which will level the energy demand and reduce waiting time and driver inconvenience as much as possible. In this paper, the authors present formulations and heuristic algorithms for charging scheduling of EVs. The authors present the simulation results under some charging scenarios and show the relationship between the waiting time and the number of times of charging.
