NEW CHALLENGE TO REPAIRING. CHANGING WORLD PATTERN BRINGS PROBLEMS TO U.K.
Changes facing the ship repairing industry due to the ever-increasing number of very large ships are discussed, including-the demand for larger drydocks; location of big drydock complexes on trade routes rather than at traditional shipbuilding centers; decreasing numbers of smaller ships coming in for repairs; the possibility that the very large ships will not enter the second-hand market after receiving heavy repairs; increasing provision of services afloat and emergency services rendered by teams flown to the ship; and greater importance of reducing repair time.
