Environmental Risks of Diesel Passenger Vehicles in Brazil

This document warns against the lifting of restrictions on diesel passenger vehicles in Brazil. It examines air quality in Brazil and light-duty vehicle regulations put in place to control emissions. It also looks at standards regulating fuel quality and the current diesel vehicle market. It argues that if restrictions were to be lifted fine particle (PM2.5) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions would increase substantially impacting public health and the environment.
