TRANSPORTING AND PURIFYING LIGHT RESIDUAL FUEL OIL FOR USE IN GAS TURBINES
All of the Oceanside gas turbines are capable of burning natural gas, No. 2 fuel oil, and light residual fuel oil. Since the light residual is less expensive than the other fuels, it is consumed whenever possible. However, the light residual has experienced a major problem--it can pick up sea water salts in moving between the storage tank at the refinery and the Oceanside storage tank. Special handling techniques have eliminated most of the sea water from the delivered product; that which still persists is removed by filtration and gravitational forces. These processes are described.
