Processing of the Dynamic Monitoring Data on the Confederation Bridge
This paper presents an overview of the system identification methods and modal analysis procedures employed in the analysis of the field monitoring data of the dynamic response of the Confederation Bridge, one of the longest continuous bridges in the world built over seawater. The monitoring data and the results of the modal analyses of the field data in frequency and time domains are presented. The vibration modes excited by heavy vehicles, wind under ambient conditions and by traffic load tests are identified. The field measured modal frequencies and mode shapes are compared to the predictions by theoretical computer models. The modal analysis results are used to calibrate the dynamic models of the bridge, which can be used in future for vibrational performance prediction ad evaluation of the structure.
