CALCULATION OF WAVES AND WAVE RESISTANCE FOR BODIES MOVING ON OR BENEATH THE SURFACE OF THE SEA
The report describes work directed toward solving the problem of steady two- and three-dimensional fluid flow about a body in the presence of the free surface of the sea. The equations considered which govern the motion are exact, except that the usual linearized free surface boundary condition is used. An exact numerical method is described for calculating the flow about one or more two-dimensional lifting, subcavitating hydrofoils. Methods are outlined for evaluating the various parts of the Havelock point source potential function, which is needed for the three-dimensional problem.
