ESSO NORTHUMBRIAS CARGO PUMPING INSTALLATION
Cargo handling is controlled from a central position situated in the accommodation at boat deck level. The remote operated valves are controlled from a console situated there, and ullages in all tanks together with draft and trim are indicated at this position. As part of the design studies, a test rig at a scale of quarter full size was used to determine the most satisfactory pumping and strum arrangement in the duct and to enable bottom drainage and stripping times to be studied. Consideration is being given to cross connecting the main cargo pumps directly to the stripping main so that tank washings can be removed by these pumps, utilizing the Vac-Strip system, as this will result in a reduction in the power requirements during tank washing. Diagrams show the tank arrangement and the pump room lines. Details are given for the pumps and their steam supply, eductors, valves and valve operating systems. The cargo discharge scheme is described.
