PROGRESS IN WORLD WIDE DEEP-WATER PORT DEVELOPMENT-WHY THE UNITED STATES IS LAGGING

While the economic rationale for offshore terminal development dictates that such development should take place within the United States, such has not been the case. Some of the reasons for the lag are examined. Included in this examination are the economic comparisons of alternative ocean-borne transportation networks insofar as they apply to the movement of crude petroleum. In addition, the progress of deepwater petroleum terminal development throughout the world will be examined, with particular emphasis on adjacent non-U.S. terminal facilities.
