D.T.M.B. STANDARD SERIES 60. A NEW PRESENTATION OF THE RESISTANCE DATA FOR BLOCK COEFFICIENT, LCB, BREADTH-DRAUGHT RATIO, AND LENGTH-BREADTH RATIO VARIATIONS
A new presentation of the resistance data of D.T.M.B.'s Series 60 is given in the form of designers' charts generally similar to that adopted in the overall analysis of the B.S.R.A. Methodical Series. The original presentation of the Series 60 results was in terms of R.E. Froude's resistance coefficient for a 400-ft ship based on 'Schoenherr sub F +0.0004', together with an equivalent presentation on the Taylor style with residuary and skin-friction resistance presented separately in pounds per ton of displacement. This made it difficult to compare with existing British data which have generally been presented in terms of Froude skin-friction corrections. To facilitate such comparisons and, in particular, to enable comparisons to be made with B.S.R.A. Series data, the new presentation gives, in addition to the original Schoenherr-based estimates, values for the 400-ft ship based on: R.E. Froude skin-friction corrections, and the 1957 I.T.T.C. model-ship correlation line. The Froude ship predictions have been made without any 'power allowance' or the application of ship-model correlation factors.
