MICROWAVE SYSTEM SICARID FOR IDENTIFICATION OF RAILWAY WAGONS

For the integrated transport control, the knowledge of the where-abouts of railway wagons is indispensable. The basis for this is the automatic identification of railway car numbers (ACI=Automatic Car Identification). Siemens solves the problem with a microwave system in the frequency band of 3.1 4.2 GHz. Pulses of this range are emitted in wobbled form, coded by a reflector and evaluated in the receiver. The interrogation frequency is so high that for each wagon number 15-20 readings are available, even with high train speeds. The system is largely independent of dirt, dust and snow.
