THE CALCULATION OF THE DISTRIBUTION OF TEMPERATURE IN BRIDGES

This report describes methods of calculating the distribution of temperature in concrete, steel and composite bridges. The calculations are based on the assumption that the flow of heat through the bridge is linear, and, where conditions are such that this assumption does not hold, methods of estimating the temperatures (extrapolated from experimental data) are suggested. The calculations are based on the extremes of environmental conditons, in the British Isles, which give rise to the worst temperature gradients in the summer and winter, and to very high and very low mean bridge temperatures. /AUTHOR/
