ASPHALT-FILLED TRACK STRUCTURE
The necessity of the new type track structure which minimizes the volume of maintenance work has increasingly been felt, due to the recent increment of labor cost and the difficulty in obtaining maintenance man power for the conventional track structures with ballast. In JNR, slab type track structures have been developed as the solution of such problems, but some difficulties were revealed in converting existing track into the slab type track in terms of practical working, etc. Therefore an alternative solution presented in this report was proposed. It utilizes the existing ballasted track as much as possible with the aid of visco-elastic materials which are filled in voids of ballast to bind crushed stones one another in order to suppress track irregularities.
