Supporting the electric vehicle market in U.S. cities
Technology developments and policy support continue to reduce the total cost of owning and operating a battery electric vehicle, to the point where in some areas of the United States it is now less than that of comparable non-plug-in electric vehicles. This briefing assesses the consumer proposition for battery electric vehicles across 25 metropolitan areas in 2014, using data on fuel costs, electricity prices, and state and local policies. It includes a look at electric vehicle incentives, such as subsidies, carpool lane access, and public chargers, and the impact of incentives on the cost of ownership.
