DEVELOPMENT AND APPLICATIONS OF A SIMULATION MODEL FOR METROPOLITAN RAILWAY OPERATIONS
The Rotterdam metro authorities are currently extending the metro line. A simulation model has been developed in order to study the problems arising in the extended network. For the purpose of this study the existing line is investigated to determine the factors influencing train-running. Measurements carried out on the actual train-running have shown that regulation of train-running serves to limit the standard deviation of the travelling time. The measurements are used to dimension the simulation model. This model is described in detail. The validity of the model is tested by simulating the existing North-South line. Future developments and simulation experiments are indicated.
