CONTRIBUTION TOWARDS THE STUDY OF THE HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL RUNNING QUALITIES OF 6-AXEL MOTIVE-POWER UNIT

BEITRAG ZUR HORIZONTALEN UND VERTIKALEN LAUFGUTEUNTERSUCHUNG 6-ACHSIGER TRIEBFAHRZEUGE

The authors develop, in detail, a method of calculating: 1) the stability of the horizontal movement of a vehicle; and 2) its indices of horizontal and vertical running quality, on the basis of the characteristics of the mass dimensions, moments of inertia and flexibility, and damping qualities, of the suspension, provided for in the project, as well as certain excitation functions representing the irregularities of the track. They adopt a number of hypotheses simplifying the symmetry of the vehicle, as well as the identity of the excitation functions, in the case of both rails. The most important is the absence of coupling between the horizontal and vertical movements. These movements are, therefore, represented, by two differential matricial systems. The above article contains a reproduction of a calculation of all the elements of these matrices, as well as a comparison, in the diagrams, between the calculated results, and those measured during tests.
