HIGH-CAPACITY CENTER PLATE DESIGN
Railroads have been alerted to center plate failures on cars of recent vintage, particularly 100 tonners. Much research has been carried out and a growing body of evidence speaks well for the approach which has been developed by Abex with the help of railroads and car builders, in this particular case a melding of design and materials. This center plate design is a cast, one-piece inverted unit with an 11 degree angle on the main bearing surface and the material is work hardening manganese steel.
