All right back there?
The safety of passengers in the rear seats is examined in this summary of a report by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. While much of the attention on occupant protection has been on the front seat, in this new study characteristics of back-seat occupants injured in crashes in late-model vehicles are examined in order to improve on ways to make rear seats safer. The use of restraints, belt technologies, inflatable belts, airbags for rear-seat passengers, and crash testing are among the issues covered here.
