INVESTIGATION OF HEAT TRANSFER ON A ROUGH PLATE
This investigation was designed to obtain and analyze data on heat transfer to a rough plate both under the conditions of a completely rough surface and under transitional conditions. The experimental investigations were carried out on plates with closely-spaced two-dimensional geometrically similar roughness elements of heights 0.2, 2 and 10 mm. For comparison, control experiments with smooth plates were used. In addition, local heat transfer on the surface of the projections and the nature of the eddies between the roughness elements were investigated on the plate with the roughness elements of height 10 mm. The results of the investigations of the heat fluxes on rough plates show that as the velocity of the external strain is increased there is a gradual intensification of heat transfer from the level corresponding to the smooth plate to some new stable level. This type of change in the heat transfer intensity can be explained by the gradual development of vortex motion between the roughness elements.
