SCATTER DIAGRAMS AND REGRESSION ANALYSIS AS A "CARDIOGRAM" OF RAILROAD OPERATIONS
A railroad manager can obtain a highly meaningful appraisal of performance through use of scatter diagrams and regression analysis. They can be used as a major tool in diagnosing operations for improvements in operating results. Furthermore, they can be used effectively on several levels, or areas of management, the yardmaster, division superintendent, system operating officer, as well as those charged with the responsibility of seeing that proposed rates are remunerative. Examples are given.
