Investigation of Topography along a Beach in Liaodong Gulf

From 16th to 19th January 2005, a field investigation of topography was performed along a beach near Panjin City, Liaodong Gulf, Bohai. Five ice surface profiles and 3 ice pile-ups were measured; one of the ice pile-ups was measured in both tide increasing and tide decreasing. Sandwich structures inside ice pile-up and sizes of broken ice pieces around ice pile-ups were also measured. Then according to these data, the surface roughness can be calculated, the distribution of broken ice pieces sizes is analyzed and the differences of the ice pile-up topography at different tide cases are compared. In this paper, the investigation position, method and main results are given. The main results include the average roughness of surface profiles, vertical section of ice pile up and their corresponding parameters for describing the ice pile up, broken ice pieces sizes distribution. Some photos of the inner structure of ice pile up are given as the evidence of ice pile up characteristics.
