Protecting the railroads
Since the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001, security in passenger and freight railroads shifted from a focus on preventing crime to detecting and preventing terrorism. Today, security plans are developed by sharing information with United States government agencies, industry trade organizations, and other railroads. The sharing of information helps keep security measures up to date and improves awareness. Security plans place a major emphasis on awareness, involving monitoring activity and providing daily security reports.
