The Coast Guard and Cybersecurity
The United States Coast Guard works to protect the marine transportation system from cybersecurity threats as part of their work to protect national security. Cybersecurity is handled by various sector-specific agencies that provide knowledge and expertise to lead or support security and resilience programs. The sector-specific agencies are also responsible for encouraging the adoption of the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Framework for Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity. The Coast Guard uses a combination of authorities as a regulatory toolkit to combat cybersecurity threats.
