NUCLEAR POWER: IS IT REALLY COST EFFECTIVE?
A description is given of a nuclear propulsion plant with an output of 120,000 SHP. This power plant, called the Consolidated Nuclear Steam Generator, is described in some detail, including the pressurized water system, the reactor pressure control system, and the coolant flow. This particular power plant is more compact than any previous piped or spread-out plant, and it is cost effective for designs of 120,000 SHP. It is estimated that it will be cost effective for lower power designs in only a few years.
