SUMITOMO READY TO BUILD CONCH-TYPE LNG CARRIERS
A description is given of developments achieved by a Japanese shipyard of a construction method and related equipment to be used when building ships (LNG) utilizing the Conch containment system. Information is given on the basic ship design, facilities needed for the successful operation of this construction method, tank construction technique developments, insulation and secondary barrier developments, and the piping system. It is believed that by successful utilization of the technique developed, a substantial savings in cost of an LNG ship can be realized.
