HEAVY DUTY FENDERING
A description is given of several types of fenders that are used to protect both ship and berth during the berthing and loading/unloading operations of a supertanker. The descriptions include cylindrical fenders, cubic, shear, and Gigant fenders, and the manner in which these fenders accomplish their tasks. The method of fender attachment to the berths is also described. Graphs that determine the berthing speeds of several size vessels and the field of application of the various fenders, are also included in the descriptions.
