ANCHOR PERFORMANCE TESTS
Production Research Co. has conducted holding power tests with several types of anchors, weighing 5, 200, 800, 1000, and 3000 pounds, in a variety of mud and sand bottoms. One lightweight type anchor performed well in medium grained sand. A lightweight anchor with large tripping palms generally held well in sand or mud, but sometimes balled-up and lost holding power. A new streamlined anchor, the BOSS, generally outperformed the other anchors by digging in quickly, holding well, and avoiding ball-up.
