DEVELOPMENT OF A PROTOTYPE OFFSHORE OIL CONTAINMENT SYSTEM

Illustrates the development work that was required to address the stringent conditions placed upon the containment system by the Coast Guard. This system is one of the first attempts to establish a complete system; the final phases of the project are still under way. Describes the many considerations that entered into the design of the system and to indicate the compromises and solutions that were achieved. The illustrations are mainly schematic sketches to illustrate principles and concepts and do not attempt to depict the detailed engineering of the prototype system.
