NFC Technology Based Models for Electronic Fare Collection Systems
The aim of the paper is to describe the NFC (Near Field Communication) based fare collection systems with its specifications. NFC provides an easy and fast opportunity for passengers to purchase their tickets for public transport services. After a short overview of the technology’s functionalities and advantages, the study presents a theoretical electronic fare collection model with its elements and properties. Subsequently opportunities of the system are discussed through some systems already in operation. After all an intelligent public transport system is outlined through examples, which fulfill the requirements of NFC technology. The numerous accomplished pilots illustrate the successfulness of the technology, although analyzing the barriers of its spreading is necessary to understand the systems and its difficulties.
