ULTRASONIC INSPECTION PROCEDURES IN COMMERCIAL SHIPBUILDING
The Bureau's "Provisional Requirements of Ultrasonic Inspection of Hull Welds" was issued recently as a guide for the ultrasonic inspection of ships and related marine structures. The background and bases for the various provisions of this document are presented. In conjunction with the use of ultrasonics in tailshaft maintenance and repair, the special nature of the problem, as well as the recently initiated application of ultrasonics, is described.
