Study on Typical Sectional Form of Circular Pipe Culvert Beneath High Embankment

There are many high-filling embankment culverts in highway construction in the western provinces of China due to special geographical condition. The function of a culvert is similar to that of a bridge whilst the construction cost of culvert is less and it is easier for construction. At the same time, it is very important subject that how to deal with the shortage in calculation upon high filling embankment culvert specified in the present "Road Bricks And Stones And Concrete Arch of Bridges Design Standard" during the culvert cross section design with consideration of various of perspectives with higher design efficiency and guarantee construction quality during construction. This article is about analysis and research of the typical section patterns of the high-filling embankment culvert. The measure used in analysis and research is the finite-element method therefore some significant conclusions can be obtained accordingly. The main content includes the following aspects. Through finite element analysis principle using the finite element method to calculate the dimensions of circular pipe culvert in different filling depth, obtain the mechanical property of culvert pipe under different conditions. Combined with finite element stress image and finite element calculation results to make analysis about pipe culvert control section hoop stress and the moment of control design for different conditions, and draw the bending moment plot. The results of the finite element method was compared by simplified structure calculation, and obtained type of typical section of culvert pipe under the high embankment. The calculation results indicate that it can reasonably reflect the collaboration function of soil body and the structure by using the finite element method to calculate and analyze the culvert structure stress character, therefore compared to the ordinary method the computed results approach closer to the actual condition.
