Evaluation of Efficiency of Taxi Industry: Effects of Taxi-Calling Mobile Apps

This paper was concentrated on the evaluation of effects of taxi-calling mobile apps on efficiency of taxi industry in Shanghai. The problems of difficulty in taking a taxi at certain times and low interest of taxi drivers arose in Shanghai. Although the functions and characteristics were similar, application of taxi-calling mobile apps had differences between shanghai and cities in developed countries. Through analysis and comparison of data before and after the appearance of taxi-calling mobile apps in Shanghai, an index system to evaluate the efficiency of taxi industry was built and the weight of evaluation element was determined by Delphi method. The effect of taxi-calling mobile apps in Shanghai was analyzed. The evaluation results implied that although the influence on passenger experience, government cost and taxi quantities was negative, the application of taxi-calling mobile apps had a positive influence on the efficiency of taxi industry from an overall perspective. Necessity of taxi-calling mobile apps in Shanghai was analyzed. The problems of difficulty in taking a taxi at certain times and low interest of taxi drivers could be improved by tipping function and a limited number of unlicensed taxis. The operation of unlicensed taxis could be restricted by the innovation of taxi-calling mobile apps in the future.
