EXPERIENCE IN APPLYING SEMIAUTOMATIC WELDING UNDER CARBON DIOXIDE TO REPAIRING OF CASTING DEFECTS
A method of repairing casting defects of cast-and-welded ships hull details made of 08GDNFL steel at the Nosenko plant is described. This method, involving semiautomatic welding under carbon dioxide using 2-mm diameter electrode Sv-08G2S, was developed to improve the efficiency of the process and to lower its cost. Work on cleaned and chipped-out defects is performed with an A-920 welding machine powered through a VS-600 rectifier, under 99.7 per cent pure gas at 400-450 amp current, 26--28V, at the rate of 10--15 m/hr, with a gap of 19--24 mm, and at gas expenditure of 18-22 lit/min. Completed work is inspected ultrasonically, and the metal is tested for its mechanical properties. The article provides additional technical information and is illustrated with photographs of metal microstructure.
