THYRISTOR-RECTIFIER-LOCOMOTIVE RE 4/4 161 OF THE ALPINE RAILROAD, BERN-SIMPLETON, SWITZERLAND
DIE THYRISTOR-STROMRICHTER-LOKOMOTIVE RE 4/4 161 DER BERNER ALPENBAHN-GESELLSCHAFT, BERN-LOETSCHBERG-SIMPLON (BLS)
All railroads with heavy traffic-, and traction service face the requirements to pull heavier loads at increasing speeds. This means that with the same number of driving axles and with unchanged weight of the locomotive its motors should develop higher torque and pull. Seven years of development work led to conclusion that compared with single phase ac drive or pulsating dc drive with diode rectifiers, the title design was the most suitable on account of stage-, and contact less control of voltage of driving motors.
