This paper outlines the results of a study for the Passenger Demand Forecasting Council (PDFC) which is a part of the United Kingdom (UK) based Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC). The study endeavored to value different seating layouts on commuter routes using the methods of focus groups, an on train stated preference (SP) survey and an innovative revealed preference (RP) analysis of on-train closed circuit television (CCTV) footage. The results may be used to update the PDFC’s Passenger Demand Forecasting Handbook (PDFH).
