A Study of LRT Projects and Urban Interiors in French Mid-size Cities

LRTプロジェクトと公共空間デザインに関する考察

Various French cities researched and implemented light rail transit (LRT) systems from the onset of LRT with some cutting edge construction projects still in progress. In a recent project in Montpellier, an artist designed avant-garde LRT cars. The LRT projects, which run on street level and typically include the design of LRT rolling stock, tram stops and various related facilities, influence the creation of spacious pedestrian spaces. These pedestrian spaces often include elements such as fountains, benches and greenery that create new urban landscapes. In this paper, characteristic LRT design elements from the viewpoint of urban landscape are analyzed and clarified based on surveys performed September 2013 in Dijon, Brest, Toulouse, Tours and Montpellier.早い段階からLRTに着目し，都市の新しいイメージとしてその導入を図ってきたフランスでは，現在もその展開が進んでいる．2012年にはブレスト，ディジョンが，2013年にはトゥールがLRTを開業し，第５路線が進行中のモンペリエでは，アーティストによるアヴァン・ギャルドな車両がデザインされている．街並みを背景として地上走行するLRTの導入は，公共交通としての役割だけではなく，公共空間の構成やデザインにも大きく影響を及ぼし，LRT車両や停留所，関連交通施設のみならず，沿線公共空間をも含めてLRTが走る街独自の風景を作り出している．そこで本研究では，2013年に実施したディジョン，ブレスト，トゥールーズ，トゥール，モンペリエでの現地実態調査に基づいて，景観に着目した魅力的な都市公共空間創出という観点から，LRTプロジェクトと沿線公共空間デザインについて分析・考察した．そして，都市景観構成要素となるこれらのデザイン的特徴やその傾向，公共空間や都市景観に関わる新しいデザイン手法等を明らかにした．
