Improving Polyurethane Pipe Coatings for Harsh Conditions
This article focuses on strategies for improving liquid polyurethane (PU) coating systems, which are of growing importance in the field of external coatings for oil and gas pipelines. Polyurethanes are increasingly popular because of their ability to cure at low temperatures and their superior mechanical properties, particularly in harsh conditions. The authors discuss PU coating application properties as well as curing time and reactivity. They develop a new class of rigid, two-component PU coatings and perform laboratory tests to determine the coatings' performance under harsh conditions, the results of which are reported.
