How has history improved the 'green-ness' of road signage?
The Australian road environment has changed dramatically over the last 100 years, with larger heavier vehicles, as well as more significant traffic volumes. These factors have made the role of a traffic sign much more difficult especially with the increasing pressure to improve safety. Innovative developments in sign making techniques and materials have provided higher performance signage which gives better visibility to road users. Along with the direct benefit of increased road safety for all road users these improvements have had secondary benefits, such as reducing the environmental impact of traffic signage.
