INSTANTANEOUS DETECTION OF THE DERAILMENT OF AXLE
DETECCION INSTANTANEA DEL DESCARRILLO DE UN EJE
The author, who points out that the cost of a derailment increases in proportion to the length of the damaged track, considers that the immediate detection of the derailment would be of considerable advantage. He proposed, for this purpose, the use of an electric detector of the abnormal jolting of the derailed axle, whose signals would be transmitted to the locomotive in order to warn the driver. This device, which was tested during five derailments, appears to have operated satisfactorily, without any false alarm, over a distance of 12,000 kms.
