THE WELDED ASSEMBLY OF STEEL BRIDGES

In the case of steel bridges, there is a growing tendency to make use of welding, instead of rivets or screws, for the joints even of main and cross members. From the point of view of protection from corrosion, welded joints and more satisfactory, and a reduction is effected in costs and building time. These economic advantages require careful planning and efficient welding. Methods of welding, and their results, are illustrated by means of three examples of the building of rail and road bridges.
