In the case of steel bridges, there is a growing tendency to make use of welding, instead of rivets or screws, for the joints even of main and cross members. These economic advantages require careful planning and efficient welding. Methods of welding, and their results, are illustrated by means of three examples of the building of rail and road bridges.
