THE EFFECT OF THE LOAD ON THE DEFORMATION OF THE BALLAST BED
DIE BEDEUTUNG DER AUFLAST FUR DIE VERFORMUNG DES SCHOTTERBETTES
The author describes the experiments carried out with the help of a static simulator, designed to establish the behavior of the ballast bed, while carrying variable and pulsating vertical loads, and to eliminate all secondary effects. For the purposes of calculation, and the preparation of graphs, the reactions of the layer of ballast were assimilated to the damping effect of ring springs. The enquiry dealt with 1.7 x 10 sub 6 alterations in load, varying between 1 and 12 t, with recording of the evolution of the deformation, and modification of the interstitial volume of the ballast as compared with the initial volume. The variations in the behaviour of the ballast bed, in accordance with the different parameters, are shown by means of graphs.
