CHANGING PATTERN OF SHIPBUILDING IN THE NETHERLANDS
The Dutch shipbuilding industry has profited relatively little from the world-wide shipbuilding boom. Its share in the world order book has dropped from 3.2 percent in 1967 to 1.7 percent in 1968, even though the subsidy provided by the government has led to a number of orders. The influences of interest rates and government subsidies on Dutch shipbuilding are discussed. The reorganization of the shipbuilding industry is discussed, with a description of the major combinations and groups formed. Cooperative shipbuilding activities among medium-sized and smaller yards are discussed, with examples and with details of the shipyards situated in Northern Holland.
