Technical approach for smooth operation at ETC lanes
The ITS makes its technological progress every day. As the utilization ratio of ETC is close to 90 percent, it has become one of the most indispensable social infrastructures in Japan. Although increase of ETC user has relieved traffic congestion at tollgates, there are some troubles at ETC lane caused by careless drivers. Once a trouble occurs, the ETC lane is closed and then to recover the trouble, customer interactions with the staff at the lane are necessary. In some cases customer interactions not only take a long time, but also cause traffic congestion or traffic accident at the tollgate. This paper introduces Remote Cash Collector (RCC) system that supports efficient ETC operation by reducing the ETC lane closing time.
