CN TURBOS BACK IN SERVICE

The Canadian National TurboTrains re-entered service between Montreal and Toronto on June 22. They are longer (nine cars instead of seven), more powerful versions of the former TurboTrain sets, almost completely modified and with better passenger amenities. There is currently only one service each way daily, with departures from both terminals at 16.30 and overall transits of 4 hr 10 min for the 335 miles including stops at Dorval and Guildwood, which are suburban park-and-ride railheads 11 and 13 miles respectively from Montreal and Toronto. The average speed including the two stops is 80.4 mph, compared with the 67 mph of the conventional Rapido trains, which take 5 hr and are slower on curves because they lack the special guidance mechanism of the TorboTrains. The reinstated Turbos replace the afternoon Rapidos.
