Driveway Information Guide
The purpose of this document is to guide the professional through the existing rules, standards and procedures, as well as to provide some background behind the guidelines and best practice for driveway planning. Unless otherwise stated or specifically referenced, this is not a set of standards or a Departmental Procedure but is a comprehensive guide to assist the professional to make better decisions for driveway placement and design. The primary thrust of this handbook is the unsignalized driveway. Even though much of this material can be used with signalized driveways and intersections, issues of signalized queues and signal timing are not covered in detail. Contents include: connection radius and flare, driveway width, driveway grade, driveway channelization, driveway length, right turn lanes, sight distance at driveways, driveway location, and driveways and the pedestrian environment.
