Deployment guideline for co-modal traveller information services
Since the mid-1990s the Bavarian Road Administration is active in the development and provision of co-modal (inter- and multimodal) traveller information services (TIS). The current services are available under www.bayerninfo.de. Existing deployments and traveller information requirements across Europe are currently heterogeneous whilst differences in national policies and investment strategies will guide future deployment. Because of this situation the European Commission supported the development of so called Deployment Guidelines. When future service implementations follow these guidelines a common service denominator is guaranteed and service harmonization and user benefits increase accordingly. Because of its huge co-modal TIS experience the Freestate of Bavaria became the coordinator of the co-modal TIS deployment guideline. The guideline consists of two main sections. Part A covers concrete service requirements and is prescriptive by nature. Part B consists of less prescriptive supplementary information to part A (e.g. best practice examples). The paper/presentation will give an overview of the content of the deployment guideline and show how important its application is.
