About 6000 track-miles of the South African Railways 3 ft 6 in. gauge system totalling nearly 20,000 track-miles are electrified at 3 kV, or 2,800 out of 13,300 route-miles. In addition t30 track-miles recently were in course of electrification and 2,000 under consideration for future conversion.
